Saturday in Florida

As I write this its about 5pm, and I can hear from the thunder rolling outside the window that the afternoon storms have already begun!

After breakfast this morning, we headed back over to Page Field. It was a hot and humid day on the ramp, but everyone was there working on their airplanes or getting reacquainted. Job one was to put the number "9" decals on the fuselage, after which the airplane was ready for inspection. The crew towed it over to a hangar where one group of mechanics inspected the engine and airframe to make sure everything was as described in our airplane registration form, and that we had tiedown ropes, working lights, an Airworthiness Certificate, Registration and so on; and another group went over the airplane logs, Pilots Operating Handbook (POH) and other paperwork. Vern, the chief mechanic, was wonderful as usual and was trying to be everywhere at once. We passed registration with no problems.

The next steps were Credentials, where two of the ladies checked that we had the correct pilot certification, medical, and biennial flight review (BFR), as well as confirmation that we had taken the FAA's course on navigating the DC ADIZ (the zone around DC for which specific flight rules have applied since 2001). All of that went well too. The rest of the afternoon was spent meeting some of the other teams; then Alison went back to the hotel to catch up on some z's, and Mary stayed at the airport to help out with a girl scout event, and also took a trip to Sanibel Island with some of the other racers.

Credentials check!

We have a barbeque back at the airport in an hour, and will post more when we get back.
